Be honest. Since we left Central Park in 1999 The JJB/DW Stadium just hasn't felt like home, especially in 2008 when we were forced to play a home game at Widnes.
At the end of 2009, two Wigan fans came up with the idea of trying to make the place feel more like home with flags displayed in the South Stand. They contacted fellow Wigan fans with their idea and at the end of November 2009 the Wigan RL Ultra's were formed.
After contacting the club we were informed that the flags could be hung from the gantry above the South Stand at each and every home game, and so on February 5th the first display was created against the Crusaders when eight brand new flags were hung alongside flags kindly donated by fellow supporters to give us 11 in total. At the time, our goal was to find around 17-18 flags to fill the gantry ready for 2011. Little did we know that this show of support would unite the fans and by the end of the playoffs there were over 20 flags on display and plans were being made to create a similar display in the West Stand for 2011. There were even 20 flags (including two brand new ones) on display at Old Trafford at the Grand Final.
The popularity of the flags has been shown numerous times such as at the away games they've been displayed at when fans have asked to have their photographs taken with their favourite flag, the amount of money kindly donated at the Leeds playoff game to help us create our 2011 displays and finally at the Anniversary fundraiser when tickets sold out in less than 36 hours.
Everyone involved with the Ultra's would like to thank you all for your support and donations this season and hope to see you in 2011.
